1. What is Ergothioneine(EGT)?
Ergothioneine was separated from ergot in 1909, hence its name. At present, it has been found that it can be synthesized in most fungi, some fungi, streptococcus, mycobacteria, and other microorganisms, and can be absorbed and accumulated by plants and animals. It was first discovered from ergot fungus, so its name is also derived from it. It is a homologous component in the human body, but we cannot synthesize it ourselves and can only ingest it from the outside world. 2.The function of Ergothioneine(EGT)
Ergothioneine(EGT)(Fermentation) Powder is a natural left-handed amino acid and an efficient antioxidant. Its antioxidant principle is mainly through the skin generated transport protein OCTN-1 entering mitochondria, directly clearing free radicals and protecting mitochondria; Secondly, Ergothione can also inhibit lipid peroxidation and cell apoptosis induced by ultraviolet radiation, further protecting cells; Ergothione also has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting peroxynitrite anion mediated amino acid oxidation.

3. Application of Ergothioneine(EGT)
EGT,due to its unique antioxidant ability, has gradually been used as a main ingredient in various skincare products, such as Est é e Lauder, Perrier, Clinique, and other skincare products.In recent years, ergot sulfur has been gradually expanding into the food industry in countries and regions such as Europe, America, and Japan. In July 2017, the European Union (EU) approved L-ergot as a new food ingredient that can be used in dietary supplements. The general population has 30 milligrams per day, and children over 3 years old have 20 milligrams per day. It cannot be used in pregnant and lactating women. In 2018, (EU) 2018/462 expanded the scope of use of L-ergothione, which can be used not only as a dietary supplement but also in regular foods such as beverages and cereal bars.
At present, Ergothioneine(EGT)can be prepared through chemical synthesis and biological fermentation methods. For components with optical rotation characteristics, there are high requirements for the synthesis and purification process of chemical synthesis methods.The product of biological fermentation has high specificity, and the preparation conditions are relatively mild and environmentally friendly.
